Something new is sizzling at 51 Division Street.
Babe's — self-described as a finer diner — has just opened its doors in Sag Harbor, N.Y., and the East End is taking notice. With nearly 8,000 Instagram followers already and a menu that balances diner nostalgia with elevated touches, Babe's is quickly becoming the kind of place locals will claim as their own.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner — Done Right
The menu reads like a love letter to the classic American diner, but with a few surprises. Breakfast anchors the lineup with staples like a Bacon, Egg and Cheese, Buttermilk Waffle, and French Toast, alongside the charming Steinbeck's Plate — two eggs, home fries, and toast, named with a nod to the literary history of the East End.
Lunch and dinner bring sandwiches that punch above their weight: a Vodka Parm Sandwich with cutlets, fresh mozzarella, and spicy vodka sauce; a Reuben on marble rye; and The French Dog — a Snake River hot dog with gruyere on a panini baguette. Wraps round out the menu, including The Savage Garden with market-fresh vegetables and The Chicken Salad Wrap with grilled chicken and peanut sauce.
Takeout and delivery are available, and the vibe — warm cream tones, hand-drawn illustrations of sailboats and windmills, a vintage biplane banner reading A Finer Diner — feels distinctly Sag Harbor.
A Welcome Addition to the Village
With the recent closure of Estia's Little Kitchen, a beloved neighborhood fixture, there's been a quiet hunger for a new gathering spot with soul. Babe's, with its approachable menu, strong local following, and that unmistakable East End charm, feels like it was made to fill that space.
